Prerequisites or Rules for domain names.

.com.au domain names

1. Must be clearly derived from a registered Australian Business Name, or registered Australian Company. Include the correct Business details (including the BRN or ACN Number) with the application as we will submit these with th application. If you cannot find your BRN or ACN numer then we can easily track these for you.
   
   
2. Example: If you wish to register watchstore.com.au, and your busines name is Sydney Prestige Watch Store, then this is correct. Alternatively if your company name is, say, Watch Store Pty Ltd, then this is also acceptable.
   
   However if your business name is Sydney Prestige Watches, then we cannot regsiter the domain as the complete domain name does not derive (No 'store' in the business name). The letters in the domain name must be derived in the same order as they appear in the business name. In this example the domain name watchstore.com.au could not be registered with a business name called 'Prestige Store of Watches'.
   
   
3. Limit of one (1) only domain name per registered company name or business name.
   
   
4. Generic words are not allowed in the com.au domain space. Genereic words are those that describe a product, service or industry. A good rule of thumb is if you find it as a category in the Yellow Pages then it may not be registered. That is why 'wedding.com.au' or 'gift.com.au' and others sre still available.
   
   
5. Australian localities are not allowed to be registered. If it has a postcode then it cannot be registered.
   
   
6. Any reference to the Olympics may not be registered

.net.au domain names

.org.au domain names
org.au domain names do not attract an ongoing NIC (Network Information Centre) renewal fee. There are restrictions on registering org.au domain names, and delays on org.au domain processing is currently at least 7mths. 9 mths for an org.au approval is not unheard of. We therefore recommend registering an alternative domain name as 9 months is a lifetime on the Internet.

Unlike other domain names we also reserve the right to charge an upfront $25 parking fee, irrespective of approval success, simply because the application is so drawn out and laborious.

org.au domain name applucations must be accompanied with proof of being a not for profit organisation or association. This takes the form of the mission statement of your organisation. Please fax through a copy with your application.

.co.uk, .co.nz domain names
There are no rules or restrictions for registration of these generic Top Level Domains. If the name is available it may be registered immediately to an individual or to an organisation.
